1-year Diploma in English Law and Legal Skills

The British Law Centres (BLC) were established in 1992 as a joint venture between the University of Cambridge and the University of Warsaw. They are now run by a dedicated educational charity, based at Cambridge University’s Law Faculty. There are numerous BLCs throughout the CEE region.

We teach a 1-year Diploma on selected aspects of English law. We also help you develop a legal skills portfolio including case management, legal writing, contract drafting, oral advocacy, debating, mooting and numerous other skills that are crucial to anyone planning a career in the law. Our teaching is conducted in a practical and interactive manner by an experienced and professional team of native English speakers. Whether you wish to practise as a lawyer or simply improve your written and spoken English whilst developing a range of other skills, the BLC helps to make your career goals a reality.

Please explore the website to find out how we teach and why your time at the BLC will be a rewarding and unforgettable experience.

Studying at the British Law Centre gave me this unique chance to gain the first-hand experience of a barrister’s chambers and to see the highest echelons of the British Bar – and that is only one of many opportunities offered by the BLC. I highly recommend joining the BLC and completing its Diploma in English Law & Legal Skills!

Patryk Polek

BLC Warsaw 2019 and trainee advocate

I have lectured on the BLC course since 1992 and I look forward to many more years of doing so. Many things have changed since 1992 but some things remain unchanged – the high standards and commitment of the BLC, its staff and its students

Professor Richard Fentiman

University of Cambridge and JAS Director

Working within any legal system requires both linguistic precision and deep immersion in that system’s legal culture. Young lawyers studying at the BLC have an immense advantage when dealing with English-speaking colleagues from common law systems.

Eleanor Sharpston

Advocate General at the Court of Justice of the EU

Would I recommend the BLC? The answer is obvious – absolutely yes! The BLC provides an incomparable opportunity to develop your legal knowledge and legal skills. You should take this opportunity if you want to be a better lawyer

Beata Jaczewska

BLC Graduate and Director of the International Visegrad Fund

The British Law Centre has transformed the approach to teaching law in Central Europe and played an important part in helping to strengthen the rule of law in those countries. Students have learnt to see legal issues in a new and different way through their experience of the common law.

Lord Carnwath of Notting Hill

UK Supreme Court Justice

I participated in the BLC’s course and it was an extremely positive and eye-opening experience. The transjurisdictional nature of today’s legal market in Europe requires the broad horizons provided to law students by the BLC

Mikołaj Pietrzak

Dean of the Warsaw Regional Bar Association

Clifford Chance has employed numerous BLC graduates of the BLC, some of whom have already reached partner level. We recognise and greatly value the skills that BLC graduates are able to bring to the workplace.
